Like most people I was expecting initially It s a very small paperback and arguably not worth the price But actually I think it IS worth the price as it s written with no advertorial bias and simply provides a rational and ordered list of things to do including reviews of the main sights tourist attractions and the many different beaches As a first timer to Barbados I found it very useful for helping plan what to do during our stay One thing it s missing is a decent map, but there are plenty of these available on arrival, in bars restaurants, or as App downloads on your phone And there s no restaurant review but TripAdvisor covers this just fine Overall it s a great little book and one of the few which seems to focus solely on Barbados.

As a bajan I read with interest some of the things I never knew The book great insight on Barbados history and wonderful beaches to enjoy I was expecting a bigger book but the small size had all the information I needed Not a lot of pictures but tell you a lot and you will get the picture Very good book.
To begin, you need to be aware that this book is tiny For the price it is nowhere near being value for money When I opened the package and saw the book of a booklet really , it made me laugh The quality is a little amateurish, for example you can be reading a section and then continue to the next page only to see the same text repeated word for wordnot good That s pretty poor quality production I have given two stars as I feel one star is too harsh, and I did maybe use one or two tips, but I m scraping for positivity here It s relevant to mention that Russell Streeter tells the reader he grew up in Barbados, and I think this affects his view of certain aspects, resulting in a less than impartial, objective guide A beach he states as one of the most beautiful may well have been in his childhood, but it isn t now And access to some of the beaches is far from easy One beach we looked for following the book s advice was so tricky to get onto we had to find a hotel security guard to tell us how the hell to get onto it, and were promptly pointed toward a narrow alley with rubbish almost blocking it between hotels I defended the booklet as it was my idea to buy it to my partner as we toured the island, and at one point she told me to bin it Verdict, keep your hard earned cash and buy a proper guidebook instead.
I bought 101 Things To Do and Places To See in Barbados around a month before my holiday One of my goals was to swim with Turtles while I was there, so I contacted Russell, the author of the book, using the details which he provides in the book, for some advice He replied almost straight away with some great tips, as well as additional insight into the island Of course I used his advice and I am so pleased that I did as I achieved my goal and had a fantastic holiday We hired a car while in Barbados and went to a number of places Russell detailed in his book, including the Animal Flower Cave, a number of beaches including Bottom s Bay, Harrison s Cave, the Wildlife Reserve, Cherry Tree Hill and we walked around Bridgetown We also tried to find Turners Hall Woods and Sharks Hole, but we re unable to find them.
.
my map reading is not the best and the sign posts in Barbados are a little hit and miss I would highly recommend this book if you are planning on exploring the Island and I would recommend contacting Russell directly as he is very helpful, passionate about Barbados and a great help.
