I get a real kick out of this series of books Deb Baker is a very talented writer and has a unique perspective.

This is my second Gretchen BIrch mystery, and so far I m finding the reading to be delightful There s a small town feel to these communities of characters the doll collectors, the homeless, the families all with their own dynamics, while living in a big city Gretchen starts out as a young woman who is smart in many ways but far too naive and trusting when it comes to people, especially men She s starting to grow and mature, despite her Looney aunt Nina or maybe because of her The menagerie of pets forms another community, each with its own human personality with which Gretchen interacts These delightful characters, along with a hot cop with a doll phobia, form the background for encountering danger and solving murders The clues are all there, but subtle The red herrings are subtle, too For example, Gretchen thinks she is being followed by a killer, has a plan all worked out to save herself, and then finds out the woman is chasing her for another reason altogether Following the clues to the conclusion is like going through a maze, with each turn leading in an interesting direction All in all, I would recommend you read the series The first one is free, so go ahead and take a chance.
The Gretchen Birch mysteries are great I started off with the first one and was hooked midway through it The second one is just as good If you think that a doll collecting mystery might not be for you think again It s got a good storyline and a great cast of characters I m not a doll collector, but I do love mysteries, and I m enjoying this series
